Clean blank, duplicate, and sparse columns

Adjust table cleaning without confusing missing data with empty source records.

Updated ·Clura 1.7.3

Before you start

  • A Preview or Results table open.

Choose cleaning rules

  • Remove empty rows hides rows with no data.
  • Remove empty columns hides columns that are completely blank.
  • Remove identical columns hides columns whose value is the same in every row.
  • Remove duplicate columns hides columns repeating another column’s data.
  • Hide sparse columns uses a threshold for mostly empty columns.
  • Show fullest columns first moves the most populated columns toward the start of the table.

Check before and after

  1. 1

    Inspect the raw shape

Identify fields that should be present, including optional values. A column with blanks may still be useful.

  2. 2

Change one rule at a time

Compare the displayed row and column counts after each change. If a field disappears, undo the rule responsible.

  3. 3

    Review images separately

Include images controls image columns in the table and exports. Keep it enabled if you need image URLs or image export.

  4. 4

    Check the download

Open the exported file and verify important fields. Cleaning changes presentation and export content; it cannot recover values that the scrape never captured.

If useful data disappears

Relax the sparse-column threshold or turn off the constant-column rule when a shared value is important, such as a category or currency. Reopen the preview with a different source list when values were missing before cleaning.
