Free Sitemap URL Extractor

This sitemap extractor reads the page addresses listed in a public XML sitemap. For a sitemap index, it follows child sitemap files from the same origin and combines their page URLs. It removes duplicate URLs and keeps the source sitemap and any last-modified value supplied in the file.

Workflow

How the Sitemap URL Extractor Works

No setup, no scripts, no accounts required. Paste a URL and extract in seconds.

  1. 01

Enter a sitemap URL or paste XML

Use a public sitemap URL to follow an index, or paste a complete XML URL set for a one-file extraction. The example XML is illustrative sample data.

  2. 02

    Review the URL list

Check scan notes and partial-result warnings. Filter the URLs by a path such as /products/ or /blog/ to keep only the section you need.

  3. 03

    Copy URLs or download CSV

Copy the filtered list or export Page URL, Source sitemap and Last modified columns. Use the Page URL column as input to Clura’s bulk extraction workflow.

Capabilities

Features of this Sitemap URL Extractor

Extracts data from both visible content and underlying page source for higher accuracy.

  • XML URL sets and indexes

Read individual XML sitemaps or scan same-origin child files listed by a sitemap index.

  • Deduplicated page URLs

Combine sitemap entries into one URL list. Fragment variants are collapsed; different query strings remain distinct.

  • Path and text filtering

Filter the extracted URLs before copying or exporting. Both actions use the same filtered list.

  • Source and last-modified values

Keep each URL’s source sitemap and its lastmod value when provided. These are sitemap claims, not a fresh check of the destination page.

  • CSV for bulk extraction

The Page URL column can be uploaded to Clura’s Bulk extract page data workflow to collect selected fields from those pages.

  • Visible scan limits

Each scan reads at most 12 files and returns at most 10,000 unique page URLs. Any skipped child file or reached limit is reported.

Best for

Use Cases

  • Ecommerce catalog research

Isolate product-page URLs before collecting consistent product fields with a separate extraction workflow.

  • Content inventories

Export the URLs listed under a blog, documentation section or landing-page directory for spreadsheet review.

  • Website migration preparation

Create a list of sitemap URLs to compare with your CMS export, redirect plan or crawl results.

  • Bulk page data collection

Start from known URLs, then choose the page fields you need in Clura instead of copying addresses one at a time.

What does a sitemap extractor return?

A sitemap URL extractor returns the page addresses in XML loc elements. A sitemap index contains links to other sitemap files; this tool reads those files before returning their page addresses, rather than confusing the sitemap filenames with content pages.

  • Page URL: the address from the sitemap entry
  • Source sitemap: the XML file that listed the URL
  • Last modified: the supplied lastmod value, or an empty CSV cell when absent

How do I find a website’s sitemap?

Look for a Sitemap line in the website’s robots.txt, or check common locations such as /sitemap.xml. Use the complete public URL in the form above. A site may have several sitemap files, and some may list only a subset of its pages.

  • Read the Sitemaps protocol for XML URL sets and sitemap indexes.
  • Use the URL Extractor to collect HTML links from a page. That is a different task from reading XML sitemap entries.

Does a sitemap list every page on a website?

No. It lists the URLs the site includes in that file. Pages can be omitted, stale entries can remain, and a sitemap does not establish that a URL is live or indexed. Compare it with an authorized crawl or your own CMS records when completeness matters.

  • This tool does not visit every returned page or verify its HTTP status.
  • It does not access login-only URLs, hidden pages or an exhaustive search-engine index.
  • Cross-origin child sitemaps are skipped. Scan that origin separately if you need its entries.

Turn sitemap URLs into structured page data

After reviewing the URL list, export the CSV and upload it in Clura. Select the Page URL column, inspect a sample page and choose the fields to collect. Sitemap extraction provides the addresses; bulk page extraction provides the selected page values.

What are the limits of this free sitemap tool?

Each scan is limited to 12 sitemap documents, 10,000 unique page URLs, 2 MB per document and about 20 seconds of processing. The result tells you when the list is partial. XML sitemap files are supported; compressed .gz files, DTDs and custom entity declarations are not.

  • Use a smaller child sitemap if an index exceeds the scan limit.
  • Paste a URL set if the remote server blocks the sitemap request.
  • Pasted indexes are not followed: use the index URL to scan its child files.

Beyond one page

Use the free tool for quick extraction. Use Clura for repeatable scraping.

Export the reviewed sitemap URLs as CSV, upload them to Bulk extract page data, then select the fields to collect from each page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this sitemap URL extractor free?
Yes. The sitemap tool needs no account or extension installation. Each request has the file, URL, size and time limits stated above.
Can I extract URLs from a sitemap index?
Yes. Enter the public index URL and the tool follows same-origin child XML files within the scan limits. Paste mode reads URL sets; it does not follow index links.
Can I download the sitemap URLs as CSV?
Yes. The CSV contains Page URL, Source sitemap and Last modified columns. A URL filter applies to the copied list and CSV download.
Why are my sitemap results partial?
The scan may have reached its file, URL or time limit, encountered an inaccessible child file, or skipped a child sitemap on another origin. Read the scan notes and try a smaller sitemap.
Does this check whether the URLs are indexed?
No. Sitemap entries are not proof of indexing or page availability. This tool extracts listed addresses and does not query a search-engine index.
Can Clura extract data from the returned URLs?
Yes. Download the CSV, open Bulk extract page data in the extension, upload the file and select its Page URL column. Review a sample page and select the fields before running.
